A Comparative Study on Job Stress and Job Satisfaction Between Preceptors and Preceptees

Abstract
Purpose :The purpose of this study was to compare the level of job stress and job satisfaction between preceptors and preceptees.

Methods : The subjects of this study were 148 preceptors and 154 preceptees in a general hospitals. The tool were job stress score and the index of work satisfaction. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient by using the SPSS WIN 10.0 program.

Results :There were significantly negative correlation in the score of job stress and job satisfaction in both groups of nurses. Job stress of the preceptors was significantly differences according to age, religion, and education level. Job satisfaction of the preceptors was significantly differences according to religion, and education level. Job stress of the preceptees was significantly differences according to age, marital status, education level and job satisfaction of the preceptees was significantly differences according to age, marital status, education level.

Conclusions :The appropriate rewards for preceptors and preceptees to decrease their job stress and increase job satisfaction will be needed in hospital settings. In addition, a plan for systemic preceptorship training program is needed to provide high quality nursing education for preceptees effectively. (Korean J Health Promot Dis Prev 2007 ; 7(2):131~138)
